Pain Management

Whether acute or chronic, pain can make it tough to get through the day. It is estimated that 25.3 million Americans suffer from daily pain. The most common sources of pain reported are low back pain (29%), neck pain (16%), and severe headaches or migraines (15%).

Research has shown that acupuncture activates many of the body’s own natural, pain-blocking opioids and other pain reducing biochemicals making it highly effective for pain reduction and management. In a systematic review of 13 clinical control trials of the use of acupuncture for acute pain, reported that acupuncture was more effective than both sham needling and injections with painkillers. Furthermore, another extensive study revealed that 454,920 patients treated with acupuncture for chronic headaches, low back pain, and/or osteoarthritis had an effectiveness rate of 76%. This effectiveness rate far exceeds that of opioid use for chronic pain, which is only 23% effective.

Mental Health

Having a healthy state of mind is important in maintaining overall good health. The mind and the body are interconnected. The way you think affects the way you feel in your body. And subsequently, how you feel in your body can affect how you think. For example, this connection explains why depression elicits body heaviness and sluggishness while exacerbating negative thoughts and difficulty concentrating.
Acupuncture has a powerful effect on this mind-body connection. Acupuncture can lift the state of mind by directly stimulating biochemicals serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine, cortisol, and BDNF. It also affects certain parts of the brain, such as the prefrontal cortex (i.e., rational thought, reason, planning, personality, and proper social behavior) and limbic regions (i.e., survival behaviors and emotions) that are thought to be responsible for mental illness. Acupuncture also helps the body relax tension and pain by stimulating many of the body’s own natural, pain-blocking opioids and endorphins.

Many studies have shown that acupuncture not only helps all these symptoms but does so without any side-effects or interference with cancer treatments.
As a result, acupuncture can enhance your quality of life throughout all stages of your cancer treatment.

Acupuncture
Initial Evaluation + Treatment (85 min.) $135
Follow-up Treatment (60 min.) $80

Acupuncture is the insertion of sterile, single-use filiform needles into the body to achieve balance or homeostasis and stimulate the body’s own natural healing response. Acupuncture points are chosen based on TCM principles and the patient’s symptoms, presentation, and health goals.
An acupuncture treatment involves a thorough health history and assessment, a discussion of the patient’s chief complaint, health goals, treatment expectations, a treatment plan, lifestyle or dietary recommendations, and a personalized treatment with acupuncture, cupping, gua sha, focused therapeutic massage, an herbal medicine prescription, or a combination of the above.

Cupping
Initial Evaluation (25 min.) $20
Cupping Appointments (30 min.) $50

A vacuum is created by inserting a flame inside a glass cup which is placed on the skin over soft tissue areas that hold tension, trigger points, or pain. Cupping can be used alone or in conjunction with acupuncture to boost its therapeutic effect. Cupping can leave marks on the skin after the cup has been removed that can take up to a week to fade. These marks are normal and part of the therapeutic effect.

Gua Sha
Initial Evaluation (25 min.) $20
Gua Sha Appointments (30 min.) $50

Gua sha is the therapeutic scraping of the skin to release tension and pain. In the process, purple or red spots known as petechiae or sha will appear on the skin. Again, these marks are normal and part of the therapeutic process and will fade quickly over time.

Dietary Therapy

In TCM food is medicine. According to a Chinese proverb, 'He that takes medicine and neglects diet, wastes the skills of the physician.’ As part of the acupuncture treatment, dietary recommendations may be suggested to add to the therapeutic process. These recommendations are tailored to each individual and based on their health condition to ensure the best possible treatment outcome.

 Tuina

The manipulation of soft tissue and fascia to promote relaxation, reduce muscle tension, and improve range of motion and mobility of the body. The massage techniques utilized are an integration of Chinese medical massage and Tuina bodywork and massage. Deep tissue techniques are used sparingly and acupuncture may be recommended instead for challenging areas.

Reiki
Initial Evaluation (25 min.) $20
With Chakra Balancing (60 min.) $80
Reiki Appointments (30 min.) $40

Founded by Dr. Mikao Usui, Reiki is a healing art developed to treat physical, emotional, and mental conditions. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word (Rei) which means “Universal Life” and (Ki) which means “Energy.” Although Reiki is rooted in spirituality, it is not affiliated with any religious group or practice.
A Reiki session consists of placing the hands on certain areas of the body in a certain order channeling the universal energy that is in all living things to the patient. Balancing the chakras, or seven energy areas of the body, can be incorporated into the treatment as well, but it is not required.
Patients usually feel calm, relaxed, and supported after a Reiki treatment. Reiki is done fully clothed and does not interfere with other treatment modalities or health care treatments. Reiki can be a nice add-on service to a massage or acupuncture treatment.

Chakra Balancing
Initial Evaluation (25 min.) $20
Chakra Balancing Appointment (60 min.) $80

Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning, "Wheels of energy."
There are seven (7) main energy centers in the body, known as chakras. They are located throughout the body correlating to specific body ailments or mental and emotional strengths. The clearing of the energy can balance our emotional state of mind and our physical well-being. When there are certain fears and emotions we are holding on to, we experience physical restrictions, and vice versa. When there are physical restrictions it creates weakness in our emotional behaviors. When the stale energy is released from the body, it can remove discomfort in that area.
The movement starts at the root chakra. Awakening and higher levels of consciousness are achieved as this vital energy rises through the other chakras. Root chakra, base of the spine } RED; Sacral chakra, just below the navel } ORANGE; Solar Plexus chakra, stomach } YELLOW; Heart chakra, center of the chest } GREEN; Throat chakra, base of the throat } BLUE; Third eye chakra, forehead between the eyes } INDIGO; Crown chakra, top of the head } VIOLET

Cosmetic Acupuncture
Initial Evaluation + Treatment (85 min.) $135
Follow-up Treatment (60 min.) $80

Needles are placed into problem areas on the face and neck, such as wrinkles or acne scarring, to promote nutrient-rich blood flow, stimulate muscle activity and toning, and encourage collagen growth, which all contribute to a more youthful and healthy-looking appearance. Cosmetic acupuncture treatment uses super-fine needles to target underlying health issues that may be contributing to an undesirable facial appearance.
Acupuncture stimulates the production of elastin and collagen fibers, improves circulation, and relaxes muscles. For centuries, Asia has utilized acupuncture to restore and preserve a youthful appearance. Cosmetic acupuncture goes far beyond aesthetic repair. The appearance of the face is a representation of the health and balance within a person’s internal organ system. The face will reflect the health of your internal organs as well as your overall health and vitality.
Cosmetic Acupuncture is beneficial for healthy individuals who are seeking a natural alternative to reducing the signs of aging and supporting your overall health and well-being. A comprehensive intake and consultation will be conducted prior to beginning Cosmetic Acupuncture Treatments to determine if it is suitable for you.
